Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)

At Fori Core Ltd., we have a dedicated Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) team, supporting adults with autism, learning disabilities, and mental health conditions who present challenging behaviours.

In all our supported living placements as well as outreach, the PBS approach is being embedded. Individuals are encouraged to be as independent and safe as possible by promoting person-centred, educational, proactive, and respectful care and support.

Our PBS Approach to Care & Support

The PBS process involves understanding the relationship between the behaviours that challenge the various aspects of the individual’s life and environment. This is achieved collaboratively with everyone involved in the individual’s care & support.

We take a person-centred approach, identifying the most beneficial elements of care & support to each individual and working closely with them to ensure that their goals, choices, and preferences are prioritised.

At FC Ltd., our support staff, guided by a team of qualified PBS Leads and Care Managers, develop a deep understanding of the needs and preferences the individuals they support. This ensures the consistent and faithful implementation of support plans and strategies.

We are dedicated to adhering to the principles of the PBS framework.

Commitment to Reducing Restrictive Practices

Our aim is to reduce to restrictive practices and improve quality of life through proactive and preventative behavioural support. This involves identifying individual needs, characteristics, and preferences. Our approach is trauma-informed, focusing on the least restrictive methods when restraint is unavoidable, and regularly reviewing these practices to ensure their appropriateness. We have signed up to the restraint reduction network (RRN) principles and have implemented them across our settings.

Training

All our care-related staff, regardless of their previous experience, are required to complete mandatory training linked to the statutory Care Certificate. This training is delivered to our staff through various methods, including:

  • Online platform
  • On-site supervision/observation

  • Spotlight Briefing
  • Induction programme
  • External online training

The Care Certificate

The care certificate ensures a consistent standard of care among Health and Social Care staff. We value our staff and ensure they have the right skills and conditions for their role.

Use of Agency Staff

Fore Core Ltd. is going to use only in-house care staff and avoid the use of temporary agency staff.

Support Model

Support Model 1: Home Outreach

We believe that effective support involves working closely with parents and family, particularly when supporting individuals affected by autism and learning disability within the family home. Our approach includes:

  • conducting a full assessment the individual’s needs and current circumstances
  • collaborating with parties, such as parents, schools, and day services
  • ensuring the individual and their family are involved in the entire process, from recruitment of support staff to transitioning and care planning
  • provide reflective practice opportunities for support staff through team meetings and workshops to explore and agree on best practices

Central to achieving this is ensuring that challenging behaviours are investigated to make sense of behaviours and learn lesson for improvement.

Support Model 2: Supported Living placement

We recognise the importance of an individual’s physical environment in their quality of life and its impact on behaviours. Our supported living placements includes:

  • sourcing and adapting properties to meet individuals’ needs, including mobility and sensory requirements
  • supporting individuals transitioning from family home, residentials schools, hospitals, or other placements
  • conducting comprehensive assessments to ensure suitable accommodation, trained staff, and detailed care plans
  • collaborating with families and professionals like Occupational Therapists, to provide necessary adaptations and tools
  • adhering to structured transition processes, core PBS principles, staff induction, training, and supervision
  • ensuring consistent staff teams who understand the individual’s behaviour, potential triggers, and distress signals.

At FC Ltd., we strive to create a supportive environment where the individual can thrive and achieve their fullest potential.
